The Real Story About Abercrombie Company History

David Abercrombie began the business in 1892, joining with former attorney Ezra Fitch in 1900. Fitch had been one of the store’s regular customers, and a wealthy attorney. He left his practice and purchased shares in the store. The store at this point had been a very upscale sporting goods store in New York. Fitch’s name was not added until 1904, when the business changed to Abercrombie & Fitch Co.. In the following you will learn the real story about Abercrombie company history.

Unfortunately, the partnership did not last, and it ended in 1907. There were many disagreements over the direction of the business. Abercrombie wanted to remain in the business of strictly selling sporting goods, while Fitch wanted sell items that would appeal to more people. When Abercrombie sold out to Fitch, he simply got other partners and continued the business.

Fitch and his expansions nearly bankrupt the company, however, they also paid off, and they really paid off historically. In 1909, Abercrombie & Fitch mailed out their first catalog, and it cost them one dollar each to publish them, which at that time was a great deal of money. The catalog was free to customers in the store. They were the first store in New York to supply clothing to women, and men. In 1913 they moved the store, and began including sportswear, and had already adopted the slogan “The Greatest Sporting Goods Store in the World.” By 1917, they were located in a building on Madison Avenue, and occupied all twelve stories. Another landmark for them, they were the first United States store to import Mahjong. Fitch imported the game after a female customer inquired about it, translated the Chinese into English, and A&F was all the rage.

A&F supplied Charles Lindberg with his outfit in 1927 when he made his historic flight over the Atlantic. Fitch retired in 1928, selling his shares to Cobb, who was his brother-in-law. Cobb bought several other companies.

A&F was affected by the depression just as everyone else was, and did not really begin to recover until 1938. They did alright during the sixties, but the seventies were not a good time for them. They had to file bankruptcy in 1977. They were bought by a retail chain named Oshman’s in 1978, and they opened new stores in California and Texas. They continued to open stores.

By 1988, Limited had purchased A&F, but it was still in trouble. Michael Jeffries became the president and decided to direct the market toward teen clothing. The teen market seemed to be the best way for the business to go financially, and it was a success. What would Abercrombie & Fitch have thought about the LFO Song, Summer Girls? Fitch probably would have appreciated the free advertising.

Currently, the company is still going strong. As strong as anyone else in the current economy. The are rated the sixth most popular brand by teenagers. They have certainly had a substantial run. Keep on Abercrombie & Fitch. Now you know the facts regarding Abercrombie & Fitch company history.

A Tale Of The Juicy Couture Company History

The Juicy Couture company history started in 1994 when Gela Nash-Taylor, and Pamela Skaist-Levy started a clothing line called Travis Jeans. The company achieved success specializing in maternity jeans that were stylish and comfortable.

In 1996 the Two Ladies altered the course of the fashion brand. They dumped the jeans determined to produce a more line more complimentary to a feminine figure, and began the Juicy Couture brand. The two had craved to fashion a brand that was both sensual & fashionable, but comfy too.

The two originally started the clothing line from their home in Pacoima, California. In an effort to expose the brand to the public eye the girls decided to send their designs to major celebrities such as Madonna, JLo and Cameron Diaz. It wasn’t long before someone recognized the girl’s talent; Madonna was noticed dressed in low a riding draw string pants and a form fitting zip up hoody with “Madge” embroidered on it. The incident caused almost instantaneous success for the company. Soon Hollywood was full of star studded Juicy Couture. Madonna’s outfit was named the “Tracksuit”, and it eventually became the company’s most famous design. The word Madge hardly ever appears on Juicy Couture clothing anymore. The suits have the signature slogan Juicy on the backseat of each set of the pants.

With the desire to extend the Juicy Couture line to the east coast, the Juicy girls held an east coast debut party to launch a new line. The affair was a hit; soon after Juicy Couture established a successful store in New York.

During 1999, Juicy Couture announced a new line of jeans named Juicy Jeans. During 2001, the Juicy Duo brought tracksuit back to the fashion world. The suits were planned to emphasize a lady’s curves and made of comfy soft fabrics such as velour, or cashmere, terry cloth, and fleece.

In 2002, Juicy Couture extended their brand of clothing to Men Children, and even dogs. Doggy products included dog beds, carriers, toys, leashes, collars and clothing.

In 2003 Liz Claiborne Inc. Bought Travis Jeans Inc. From Gela and Pamela for the price of $53 million they were also given a percentage of the future proceeds. Today Gela and Pamela still remain presidents of the fashion line and still design the fashion concepts.

With aid from Liz Claiborne, In 2004 The Company became a world known brand. Juicy Couture expanded their woman’s products introducing lines of handbags, jewelry, swim wear, shoes, perfume and cologne. Today the company continues to offer the most fashionable and comfortable clothing in the industry.
